Looking to the Future: St. Philip School Academics
St. Philip School is proud to offer a combination of challenging academics, excellent after-school programs, and resources that assist all students in their social, physical, spiritual, and emotional growth:
Language Arts: St. Philip's language art curriculum encourages young learners to enjoy the love of reading! This is accomplished through a combination of reading, writing, and listening lessons that bring out the best in our young readers. This with a technology and library program, students get a full range of literacy skills as they prepare for the challenges of college preparatory/ high schools. Mathematics: The Mathematics curriculum at St. Philip's is constructed with the understanding that students learn in different ways. Our students are guided to the challenge of mathematics through a rigorous curriculum where they find multiple methods to solve the same problem. In addition, our students learn how to manage math through daily life strategies and learn that math is around them everyday. Science: As the field of science is ever-changing, our science curriculum is one that is hands-on and dynamic. This curriculum covers the life, earth, and physical sciences in a way where basic concepts are learned and practiced- as they would be in a laboratory setting. St. Philip School is blessed with a dedicated science teacher (Grades 4-8) that focuses on key concepts and experimentation as a key learning model. Religion: The Catholic faith is a intertwined with everything activity here at St. Philip's. The basics of the Catholic belief system are taught throughout the grade levels, but with the understanding of the our area's great religious diversity. As important, St. Philip School acts out all aspects of our faith (service, justice for all, compassion, respect) throughout the school day and in all environments. For practicing Catholic families, the school and parish offers Sacramental Prep classes for our students that choose to continue the faith in their own families. Social Studies/History: History and Social Studies are taught with the understanding that dates and figures are not the end of the story. From Kindergarten to Eighth Grade, students are taught about the world around them, how historical events changes cultures, and how geographical features affect cultures. Geography, historical people (from all walks of life), and governmental structures: the Social Studies curriculum challenges our students to learn from the past to assist them in what they do with their futures. Technology and Library Classes: As the world is ever-changing in the area of technology, Saint Philip the Apostle School is changing with it! Our school offers not only dedicated technology and library classes, but we also make it a point to make these key subjects part of everyday school life. From I-Pads (K-3), laptops (4-8), and experienced teachers, our Technology and Library programs have one goal: to make these subjects exciting and meaningful to every student.
Enrichment Classes/After-School Programs: St. Philip School challenges and enriches the curriculum through a series of enrichment classes. These classes include Spanish (K-8), Physical Education, Technology, Music and Arts classes. All subjects are taught by qualified instructors who use multiple methods of teaching in order to bring out the best in every student.
